12 New Covered Pickleball Court s In the Works for Bellingham!
Whatcom Community College (WCC) & the Bellingham Pickleball Club (BPC) are teaming up to bring 12 state-of-the-art covered pickleball courts to the WCC campus!
This incredible initiative is made possible by the generosity of BPC member Claude Blackburn, who is donating $2 million, alongside an anonymous donation of $125,000.
The project’s first phase—a feasibility study—will be conducted by HKP Architects, the firm responsible for the Blackburn Pavilion at Skagit Valley College. The study, to be completed in early 2025, will result in a budget & a construction time line.
Highlights of the Project
- Year-Round Playability: The courts will feature lighting and wind screens, enabling play in all weather conditions—even on Bellingham's darkest, rainiest days.
- No Fees: No monthly or hourly fees & reserved time s for WCC & BPC members.
- Tournament-Ready Facilities: Combined with other campus and community pickleball facilities, the project provides significant opportunity for hosting large-scale tournaments. The courts will be conveniently located at the north end of WCC’s campus, with ample parking for players and spectators alike.
Benefits to the Community
The covered courts promise to attract pickleball enthusiasts and visitors from near and far, providing an economic boost to the Bellingham area.
